What materials to throw away?
Hello folks.
I'm keeping materials, but some of them seem to have no buyer players at all! What is absolutelly 'unsellable'?? Are there better places to sell specific things (like 'in Ventari's refuge you can sell some granite')?? Thanks in advance! Sean |

What kind of materials? If you mean cloth, wood, scales and things like that, you need to sell those to a material or rare material trader. Most major cities have them. The normal merchants don't deal in them. If you have things that say 'salvage item' or 'quest item' then salvage them or just trash them if you've completed the quest.

Once you get to Lion's Arch, you are able to sell most everything at its best price (via D1 trade). So don't worry about stuff being more expensive in later areas.
I would sell all the common materials I don't need for armor later on to the merchant, or spend some money and craft them into rare materials to sell to players. Rare materials, depending on the material, can be sold to players for a small profit margin. If you happen to know someone who specifically needs certain materials, keep them as you find them and you can sell them to the person for more than to the merchant. |

Thanks guys, i guess I wasn't very clear.
I sell ingots cloth and woods very often in Ascalon D1. But Granite Slabs, Bones and Feathers are stuck in the inventory, and I'd like to know if there's any place where players buy those? Is there a guide for where is better to sell each material? Thanks again!! |

a good thing to know is what materials are needed the most for armors. things like iron, tanned hide, cloth, and wood are always in high demand because a lot of the armors require tons of them.
things like granite slabs and feathers are just secondary materials and usually only a few are required per piece, making the demand for them very low. the thing is just that people don't need it. i would just sell those to the material trader since it's only wasting inventory space for you. |

Bones and Feathers you're most likely to sell either in Droknar's or possible Marhans/Granite Cit for people buying the end game/15K sets.
But I honesty dont see many ppl "WTB bones, granite".....Feathers are a diff story because of the tattoos/scar patterns. |

Even then, with a full tats set you only need 30 feathers...... easier to buy them from the trader than to hassle in trade WTB 30 feathers

Thanks very useful post and discussion.
One question: What use are scales? Although i have 166 planks etc i only have 18 scales, they seem quite rare but ive never seen anyone want them. Will i need them later on as a Mo? |

Is there a listing of what materials are used for which classes?
For instance, I know bones are only used by necros. |

Make sure you keep all Marks of Aidan you can find. They'll be the main ingredient for all Chapter 2 armors.

Keep them ALL! PACKRAT TO THE DEATH!
But seriously, i'd say don't sell em, but turn em into rare products with a bit of gold from artisan crafters, or just plain sell to vendors. --The Shim |

Of the common materials, only dust/wood/iron/tanned hide squares are worth keeping (that seems like nearly all though), and to a much lesser extent, cloth. The rest should be merchanted. For rare materials though, I generally NPC everything unless I'm hoarding for a specific armor/crafted item. Not much point in keeping them, and selling them on the market for everything except parchment seems to take more time than its worth.

Best places to buy/sell material is Ascalon1 and DF1.
Wood, iron, leather are the most commonly traded materials. After that dust, fur, parchment, steel, char hides. Least traded materials are vellum, deldrimore steel, damask, linen, leather squares, charcoal. Scales, bones, and feathers are very situational because very few armors require them. |

On a related note, why do people Farm Griffons? If Feathers aren't a big commodity, what's the point?

Most marketable to least marketable common materials, in order:
Wood Iron Tanned Hides Scales Glittering Dust Cloth Feathers Bones Granite Shells Honestly, anything beneath cloth I just sell to the merchant, and often times even Cloth isn't worth spamming, even in Droknar's. The other four sell extremely well, normally for 10g each (other than Dust, which can range from 6-8g). |
